What Do We Think?

This is a LOUD guitar! Acoustically speaking. Being the same wood as White Limba (also known as Korina) in all aspects except color, the Black Limba body gives the resonance of mahogany with some extra sweetness and vibrance in the upper register.

And this one sports one of our favorite P-90 combinations: a Lollar low wind P-90 in the neck position and standard wind in the bridge position. The neck is warm but open. No mud and doesn’t overpower the bridge. The bridge has the quintessential midrange-forward P-90 snarl with plenty of body on bottom and clarity on top. The middle position is snappy and spanky, and hum-cancelling to boot.

The clear nitro finish features some nice finish checking, though nothing on the guitar is artificially aged. Plastic still on the pickguard to make sure it doesn’t have any pick scratches on our watch. This is a clean “NOS” build and a very sharp piece tip to toe.

How Does It Play?

This guitar sets up very low, with the string action measuring just 4/64” on the low E string at the 12^th fret and nearly down to 3/64” on the high E string. That’s without any buzz. The profile is a moderate C inspired by an early ‘60s Fender shape, slim enough to be fast in the hand yet still supportive. The contoured neck heel is a nice touch as well and really opens the upper fret access up nicely.
