What Do We Think?

This exquisite JM6 features a phenomenal pairing of Lollar P-90s—an OmniTron P-90 in the neck position paired with a standard P-90 in the bridge position. The OmniTron is wound specially for Fano and utilizes Alnico pole magnets, sharing certain build and tonal characteristics with a single coil pickup. This makes the pickup a little bit more open through the midrange than a traditional P-90, almost like a fatter Strat neck pickup.

All three pickup positions will sit in a mix very nicely without fiddling with your amp or pedal settings. The neck position is rich and warm in the low end, chimey through the mids and a beautiful glassy texture on the top much akin to a single coil. The middle position filters out some of the juicy low mid content, which gives it a very Jazzmaster-esque tone and attack. Switching to the bridge pickup gets a fatter upper midrange punch and rolls off the lows and highs a bit to focus all the energy into the EQ bands that will push your amp into singing breakup.

How Does It Play?

The string action measures just 4/64” on the low E string at the 12^th fret, and even lower on the high E. There is no fretbuzz. The early 60’s-inspired profile is a nice medium C with enough shoulder to support the hand and thwart fatigue. You’ll also appreciate the contoured neck heel which gives easy access to the upper frets.
