What Does Ivey Think?
What a stunning JM6! This 3-pickup beauty has all the options you could want, visually and tonally. The Silver Plexi guard and block inlays really make it stand out in a crowd. Topped off with a Bigsby B5 and set of unique Lollar P-90 pickups, there are probably few gigs this guitar couldn't handle.
We can't say enough good things about the Lollar Omnitron P-90 in the neck and middle positions. Even though it looks like your standard P-90, its construction is closer to that of a single coil and is made specifically for Fano. We find it to be more open in the midrange than a normal P-90, rich and warm in the low end with a chimey upper register. It's very strat-like. When engaging the middle and neck together you get some great "Lenny" inspired tones, much like the 4th position on a Strat. Middle and bridge lends itself to a beefier 2nd position than you'd typically hear while retaining some iconic "quack".
To engage the middle pickup, there is a push-pull on the volume pot that allows you to switch it on at any setting of the 3-way toggle. This allows you to run all three pickups on at once, which sounds incredibly 3-dimensional (no pun intended). This setting slightly filters out some upper mids and is great when drenching your clean tones in effects.
And lastly, the Lollar standard wind P-90 in the bridge. This position is fat and punchy with just the right amount of mids to push an amp or drive pedal when desired. It pairs well with a variety of different drive types, never getting too congested in the lower midrange as some P-90s can. It's not overly hot, so there is still dynamic range enough to have a great clean sound with plenty of clarity.
The NOS nitrocellulose finish is as clean as Fano builds them! This is perfect for the player who wants to put their own wear on the guitar.
How Does It Play?
Fano’s early ‘60s C neck is a nice medium profile with good shoulder and gentle taper from the nut to the heel. The string action on this guitar hovers right around 4/64” at the 12th fret (even a touch lower on the high E) without any buzz. The frets are dressed to perfection.

The Fano deluxe padded gigbag is included.
