New for 2020, Fano has extended the JM4 to the revered Alt de Facto line. For players wanting options that were not available on the Standard series, this is your ticket! If this isn’t exactly the one you are looking for, contact us and we can spec one out to your exact liking.
Take your favorite Jazz bass, sweeten it with some updates and rein in the offset body just a little. That’s what you get with this Fano JM4 Alt de Facto. The Lollar Thunderbird pickups are one of our favorite bass pickups on the market. They run dead quiet but they pack a punch. The low end is immensely full and gratifying, without any sacrifice of articulation in the mids or highs. While tight and responsive, the feel of the pickups is more vintage than modern. You’ll find the tone knob extremely effective, without mud or overly-aggressive highs at either end of the sweep. And let us reiterate that these pickups run silent, so you can blend the pickup volumes in any way you like, even in the studio.
The 3-Tone Sunburst finish is lightly distressed, just enough so that you are not on the hook for the first bump or bruise. Block inlays dress up the dark rosewood fretboard beautifully, and the tortoise pickguard is the perfect complement to the sunburst. The contoured neck heel provides a pleasant transition to the upper frets and the HiMax bridge (Fano’s take on a HiMass or BadAss) is phenomenally substantial. And yes, you can either top load or go string-through depending on your taste!
How Does It Play?
These come in set up great right out of the case from Fano, but we still do our due diligence of a thorough check and a nit-picky setup. This one likes to sit at barely a hair over 3/32” on the low E at the 12th fret and right at 2/32” on the high G. The action is low up and down the entire fretboard, with no buzz or dead spots. This is an extremely player-friendly instrument.
