What Do We Think?

This one takes a timeless Gretsch tradition and ups the ante. The GF6 is a superbly comfortable semi-hollow offset with a SOLID carved top. This makes the guitar a bit more responsive than most semi-hollow builds and likewise increases the sustain and dynamic range.

The TV Jones Classic in the neck and Classic Plus in the bridge deliver plenty of jangle, but with a full and rich character. The neck sounds broad and open. The middle position is crisp and snappy. The bridge position packs a bigger midrange punch. It also tapers the top end just right for classic rock ‘n’ roll crunch when you want to turn up the gain.

We chose to have this one dressed up with classy block inlays as well as neck and body binding. Clear pickup rings, silver plexi pickguard and nickel hardware adorn the lightly-distressed Charcoal Frost nitro finish. We opted to have Fano sand the back of the neck to make it perfectly smooth and completely resistant to the stickiness that can occur with nitro-finished necks.

How Does It Play?

The early ‘60s-inspired C profile is temperately slim, but with round shoulders to support the hand and thwart fatigue. The string action measures the smallest hair over 4/64” on the low E string at the 12^th fret and below 4/64” on the high E. The 12” fretboard radius will be particularly familiar to players coming over from the Gibson tradition, and accommodates string bends without a hint of fretbuzz.
