Brand New with Warranty. We are an authorized Bad Cat Dealer.
The award winning Hot Cat amp was introduced in 2005 to great accolade. As pleased as we are with the original, the time had come for a whole new Hot Cat. We took everything we have learned over the last 20 years and applied it to this limitless reimagining of the Hot Cat.
A two channel amplifier now with two gain modes per channel, the Hot Cat provides virtually limitless gain combinations as well as studio quality reverb, and an all new fully buffered effects loop. It ships with footswitch, footswitch cable and padded slip cover.
What Do We Think?
This amp is incredibly easy to dial in, yet has loads of options on tap. Its intuitive 2-channel design features independent gain and volume controls for each channel, so balancing the level of the channels is a breeze. Additionally, it has a global master that allows you to tame the overall volume of the amp with marvelous success.
The sweep of gains available on each channel is quite broad, with channel one delivering gorgeous cleans to classic breakup tones. Channel two overlaps the upper end of channel one slightly, but with a bit more immediacy in the touch. And it ascends from there to yield an impressive range of gain tones.
Bad Cat has also integrated a lo/hi gain feature into the amp, applicable to both channels. Think of Lo mode as standard fare. Then bump the amp into Hi mode to soup up the grind and boost the bass and treble frequencies a bit in the process. This works wonderfully as a solo bump with perfect fullness and clarity, and also serves up an excellent platform for expressing yourself via the volume knob on the guitar.
So to review, you can very quickly get four variations of tones and gains dialed up, all to be queued directly from the included footswitch: channel 1 Lo gain, channel 1 Hi gain, channel 2 Lo gain & channel 2 Hi gain.
The EQ section is straightforward as well. The midrange sits in the perfect place to scoop or push without the amp getting nasal. We tend to like the mids bumped a bit for a rich vintage flare, but more modern tones will be served just as well by cutting them back a bit. The presence knob tailors your top end to lean more Marshall or more Vox at the turn of a knob. Used in tandem with the treble knob, you can achieve precise control of your upper frequencies.
The combo version features a Celestion Vintage 30 for classic, British-inspired detail and definition. The combo enclosure sounds big, yet nicely focused.
