The Wonderland Overdrive is in a class of its own. Big shimmery cleans and a throaty high gain overdrive fuse into a versatile amplifier that will take your guitar tone to the next level. This amp is easy to dial in and includes onboard spring reverb and half power.

What Do We Think?

What a beast! There’s something extra juicy and especially punchy about the tube-rectified version of the Wonderland Overdrive. For a Strat we dial it in with EQ switches up and just a little scoop in the mids. Gain and Master at 2 o’clock delivers delicious harmonics in the preamp section and gets those 6L6’s blooming in the output section.

The bottom end on this amp is huge, but not mushy. The midrange is present when you dig in, but backs out of the way when you play with a lighter touch. The trebles are smooth but shimmering. The Reverb is lush but sits back nicely in the mix, allowing you to run it even up past noon without getting in the way.

For the overdrive channel you might start with the Drive knob around 10 o’clock and the Overdrive Level at 11:00. This gives plenty of room to work the volume knob on the guitar to clean it up or grab just the right vowel on the note as you play with the interaction between guitar and amp. For incredibly edgy rhythm tones, try adding the footswitchable preamp boost. This bumps the upper mid frequencies and tighten up the lows, while still remaining very sensitive to the volume knob.

Switching to humbuckers? No problem. We don't find you need to make even a single EQ adjustment. Of course, you'll be welcomed by a little more saturation. In the end you may back the Gain knob down about one digit in order to maintain a nice mostly-clean tone on the clean channel. But the amp sits just as well with ‘buckers as it does with single coils!

As mentioned above, the head is the tube-rectified version of the 50W, sporting a pair of GZ34 tube rectifiers. This rig includes a matching oversize 112 cab loaded with a Celestion G12-65. I wouldn’t change a thing. For cosmetics, you’ve got a rich Blue Croc tolex and Black Sparkle Grill. Both head and cab are included in the listing, along with power cable, footswitch and 7-pin DIN footswitch cable.
