Designed by and built here in the US under the supervision of Jack Schwarz, Aero3 Guitars incorporate Aerospace Honeycomb material into chambers in the body. Having worked in a variety of roles from Master Technician to Vice President at Fender and serving currently as CEO of DSMI (parent company of Fano Guitars), Jack took what he learned from years in the industry and put it all into the Aero3 design. These guitars deliver big sustain, acoustically controlling unwanted frequencies while enhancing overall resonance and harmonic frequency response. The brand did not have the funding to fully break through into the market. Because of our close relationship with Jack, we have been offered the remaining stock of Aero3 Guitars to share with our clients. These guitars are prototypes with some minor play wear from testing, which we have made sure to point out in close-up photos. They are a phenomenal value when you look at the construction, hardware, build quality and appointments of the instruments.
What Do We Think?
This is an effortlessly versatile guitar. The neck and middle pickups are a pair of Seymour Duncan Custom Stack Plus, which deliver thick Strat tones while being completely noiseless and pairing perfectly in output with the TB-11 humbucker in the bridge. The neck position is thick Texas Flood with a great throaty midrange. The middle pickup adds
some bark on the top end, and the in-between position has a nuanced quack
and gutsy chime. The TH-11 in the bridge never quite cleans up, but handles gain with a thick bottom end chug and a precise midrange for singing lead lines. The middle/humbucker position has a nice spank/cluck with a slight midrange scoop, perfect when you need to get some of the harmonic content out of the way for funky rhythm parts. You’ll spend a lot more time finding the tones this guitar CAN do rather than the ones it can’t.
The neck on the guitar is a nice alternative to the
modern “slim/fast” necks, still allowing for speed but providing nice support for the hand at the same time. The profile is based off Jeff Beck’s 1963 Strat, noticeably deeper than the shallow ’62 Strat profile. The Jescar “6105”-profile frets are vintage-inspired but tall and wide enough to play easily across a variety of genres. The guitar also features GraphTech Ratio tuning keys with gear ratios customized for each string, providing one of the silkiest tuning experiences you’ll ever find.
The Hipshot Stainless Steel Hardtail bridge puts the string energy right back into the body. Pairing that with the chambered aerospace technology hidden beneath the maple top, this guitar delivers an incredible level of sustain. You can sense the resonance of the body letting those long notes ring out even longer.
How Does It Play?
We are big fans of the neck profile and the feel of the entire guitar. It sets up nicely and the string action stays nice and low up the whole neck without any buzz. Going elsewhere to find the same specs, quality of fretwork, and beautiful 5A Flame Maple Top is going to cost a heck of a lot more. We’re sad the Aero3 line didn’t have the financing to break into the market with more production, but happy we got a few before they’re gone.
